Tips for a successful skiing holiday

Whether you're a group of friends travelling on a budget or a couple looking for a quiet place to stay with your young family, the French Alps have something to offer everyone. Drawing skiing enthusiasts from across Europe and the world, with both famous resorts and lesser known ones, it really is a top destination. To help make your holiday a smooth one, here are some top tips to help when planning your trip.

The Resort - Depending on your group's ability you can tailor your choice of resort to suit you. If you're travelling with a group of mixed-ability skiers then Val D'Isere is a fantastic destination due to its wide range of slopes, 133 in total, and excellent town life. Or you may wish to take a look at La Rosiere which has more easy slopes than hard ones but will suit a mixed group and boasts some excellent off-piste opportunities.

Book Early - booking your trip early can save you a good deal of money on quite a few of the essentials for your trip. Check out hotel availability early before your first choice becomes booked up and look out for package deals too. Ski hire can be cheaper if you book in advance and it saves having to spend time in the shop which can take a while in peak times, reserve your skis and boots and you'll be able to pick them up and ski away!

Find the Right Accommodation - finding the right accommodation is crucial and there's usually something for everyone. If you're a family you may wish to stay in a chalet for your added comfort and privacy, especially if you have young children. Groups of friends often prefer self-catered apartments for the added ease of being able to cook for yourselves, which also helps to keep the cost down. The most popular accommodation is hotels and there's no shortage of these wherever you choose to ski, and you can often find really good 'all inclusive' deals too, meaning you're not going to have to worry about a food budget.

Insurance - although fun it is important to remember that skiing is still an adventure sport and therefore carries with it obvious risks. Therefore you need to make sure you have adequate medical insurance from a trusty provider before you step onto the slopes or you could end up with a hefty hospital bill if you take a tumble!
